Puzzle FAQ
Unstick your thinking
A useful question can do more than another hurried guess.
Do I need advanced mathematics?
No. The starting routes use arithmetic, comparisons and explicit constraints. Unfamiliar terms are explained where they appear. Pencil and paper can help, but specialist equipment is unnecessary.
Can a sequence have several valid continuations?
Yes. A finite list can fit many rules. We distinguish a simple plausible continuation from a uniquely forced answer. The number logic route shows why an extra assumption matters.
Is a hint the same as a solution?
No. A hint redirects attention toward a useful feature. A solution states the conclusion and explains the steps. Our disclosures are separate so that you can choose how much to reveal.
What should I do when I am stuck?
Restate the goal, list the given facts and test a small case. Separate assumptions from facts before trying another approach. A break can help you return with a fresh description, although it does not guarantee a solution.
Does solving quickly mean reasoning better?
Not necessarily. Speed is not used as a measure of intelligence here. A careful explanation can expose a mistake in a fast answer. There are no timers, leaderboards or claims that performance measures your ability.
How do I know a deduction puzzle has one solution?
Show that every alternative violates a condition. Finding one valid assignment alone establishes possibility, not uniqueness. For a small puzzle, listing the remaining cases is often enough. See the deduction example.
Is there one Scandinavian way to think?
No. The Nordic setting is an editorial and visual context, not a claim that a region shares a single reasoning style. Mathematical methods are used and developed internationally.
What do the difficulty labels mean?
They describe the expected number of interacting ideas, not a measured score or a judgement about the reader. Familiarity with a particular representation can make one puzzle feel easier than another.
Can I use the puzzles without an account?
Yes. No account is required. Hints and solutions can be opened directly, and core reading works without JavaScript. JavaScript adds the mobile menu, topic tabs, gentle reveals and contact draft tools.
How can I report an error or a different solution?
Use the contact page to prepare a message with the page address, relevant clue and your reasoning. The tool does not send messages automatically. A counterexample or an alternative valid assignment is particularly helpful.
